Devlog Day #002

Today is the second day of my Neon Nights Devlog.

I did not write any code today. Instead I decided to focus on the design, to give this project some visuals.

I spent a lot of time thinking about what the main character and the map should look like. For the main character, it is looking like this at the moment:

I know, not mind-blowing, but for my first ever character design, I'm kind of proud.

Furthermore, I started to work on a prototype-map-look, that I can use as a starting point for developing the theme and the later implementation of the map ingame. I'm not finished, but this is what it looks like right now:

I'm not sure, but from what I have now, I already feel like this is gonna be a bit to bright for the theme, which is set at night. I might change the ground to something fading into black.

My idea is to have 4 main playing areas. The city (what you see in the picture), underground (accessible through the manhole cover you see here), inside (inside the buildings) and the roof.

I worked 2 hours today.

The plan for now is to finish the map prototype, and then try around and add some neon lights as a store-title on the building in the middle and in the yet empty billboards hanging on the buildings. When I have the lighting together with the map I might be able to better execute what I have in mind for the atmosphere. I hope to finish this in the next 3-4 days, so that I can finally proceed to the character animations.
